New Report... Norwegian Fjords & North Cape aboard MSC Opera
Canada Line Sky Train — Light rail airport service now open.... Get the details here.
2009 Alaska Season now over... 897,000 cruise passengers passed through Vancouver in 2009. Fred Olsen's Balmoral started the season when she arrived during her World Cruise. A major improvement this year was the inauguration of Canada's only shore power facaility. Ships docked at Canada Place cruse terminal can now hook up to shore power, or local electricity, enabling them to turn off their engines and reduce air emissions. Shore power is also available in Juneau and Seattle. This is another enviro-friendly commitment made by the cruise lines sailing Alaskan waters.
2010 Alaska Season ... Next year will see a 30% reduction in ships sailing from Vancouver to Alaska due to cruise lines deploying ships to other destinations or having them home port in Seattle. The 2010 Vancouver cruise schedule should be live in February.
Reasons to sail to Alaska:
- The dramatic mountains and fjords of the Inside Passage and Alaska provide one of the most scenic cruising areas in the world.
- Since many towns can only be reached by boat or plane, cruising is the ideal way to reach these remote spots.
- They also provide the perfect jumping off point for adventures into the great Alaskan wilderness.
- Alaska is one of the few places in the world where you can cruise close to spectacular, tidewater glaciers.
- The peace and silence of Alaska makes it a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
- Embarking in Vancouver gives you the best cruising experience as you have a better chance of sailing the Inside Passage both north and south, surrounded by scenic beauty.
