EXCERPTS FROM AN OBITUARY. Some of which is illegible, so it is edited.
Friday morning it was heard that John E. Clark, retired farmer and one of the
pioneers of the district, had died suddenly at his home soon after breakfast.
Mr. Clark had been about the streets greeting friends as usual the day before
and his death was wholly unexpected. It seems that he had a dizzy spell which
passed in a few minutes. He had been ill of kidney disease for several years. It
is said the cause of his death was given as Angina Pectoris.
John Enious Clark was born at Collins Hill, New York April 6, 1850 and died at
his Home in Chokio Aug ?, 1926.
Mr. Clark moved from the East and located at Chippewa Falls, WI, later residing
ar New Auburn, WI. He moved from the later place to Stevens county and located
on a farm near Chokio in 1896. During the 16 years that he farmed here until he
retired in 1912, he was very active in community affairs, having served for
several years as supervisor of Baker Township. He enjoyed a wide
acquaintanceship, and numbered everyone as a friend.
The deceased is survived by a wife, seven children and one sister and one
brother. The sister is Mrs. Flora Stuart, of Portland, Ore., and the brother is
Albert Clark, of Erie, Penn.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Chokio M.D. Church,
Rev. E. J. Thorne, pastor, officiating, with interment in the Chokio cemetery.
The pallbearers were: Peter Salmonson, E.J. Amberg, J.H. McNally, Thos. Johnson,
Stephen Burt, all of Chokio, and Geo. Farwell of Alberta.
