Notes

Jennie set out for a small shack on the prairie wilderness upon being married
in 1905. There she toiled alongside her husband until the children began to
arrive. Then she was often left on her own while he had to be away. He walked
15 miles to phone the doctor when Ethel was arriving. Her father arrived and
built them a more substantial home. 2 brothers also came to Canada and served
in WW1. A younger sister also came to help when the children were young. A
hard but fruitful life ended at age 72.

Notes

He served in the Canadian Intelligence Service during World War 1. He was an
American citizen. Was supposed to have read and written six or seven languages
and used to interpret for foreigners in North Dakota. Often visited his
daughter Jennie Clark, helped build them a home in Melville, and is
especially well remembered by her children.
