1999 - Coquitlam, British Columbia No More Updates. Check out my final summary, and Marv and Loretta's own reflections.
In fact, skip my summary and read their reflections. A beautifully written statement about
what it was all about. Should they write a book, that is how it should start.
Thanks for reading.
For those of you who have been reading these pages regularly throughout the trip, thanks
for the interest and kind words. I enjoyed creating this site, having some fun at my
parents expense, and was motivated by watching the visitor count climb. I learned
something about creating Web pages, and learned a lot about the geography of our country
as I tracked Mom and Dad's progress.
Now, I can get on with my day-job.
Distance: 6,358 kms cycled;
6,747 kms traveled; 90 days cycling over a period of 130 days. |

Loretta and Marvin Wideen kicked off their retirement with a
bike tour across Canada. A mere 6,750 kms (or so) from Mile 0 in Victoria, BC to
Mile 0 in St. John's, Newfoundland. This bike ride has been a dream of theirs for
years. They first planned to do this for their 61st year, but work and
timing meant their 66th year would be it.
They dedicated their trip to schizophrenia (see Schizophrenia Society of Canada). If you are
moved by their adventure, they would be pleased if you contributed to this society in the
name of Wideen Ride. You can mail cheques or money orders to:

Who
am I? I'm Brian, their eldest son (some would say their smartest and best looking son, but
I digress.) I used these pages to track their progress during the ride, providing
daily updates. Now that the ride is complete, these pages represent history.
See day-by-day chronology, sections of their personal logs (I left the juicy bits out),
highlights of the trip, and even some pictures.
